First Impressions: MAKE UP FOR EVER ULTRA HD CONCEALER

The launch of the Make Up Forever HD concealers was for me, the most anticipated makeup launch of 2016. I've been using the same brand name concealer now for about a year and I wanted to try something different. If you haven't noticed already, I have a love for Make Up For Ever products and I couldn' wait for them to launch their new ULTRA HD concealers.

The ULTRA HD concealer is available in 10 shades:

Color Correct: neutralize dark circles with a peach shade:

R20: Light Skintones
R22: Light to Medium Skintones
R30: Medium Skintones
R32: Medium to Tan Skintones
R40: Tan Skintones

Conceal: brighten and awaken undereye area:
Y21: Light Skintones
Y23: Light to Medium Skintones
Y31: Medium Skintones
Y33: Medium to Tan Skintones
Y41: Tan Skintones

The concealer is housed in a slender 7ml black circular tube, making this very convenient for travel. I bought the Y31 shade and R30 corrector (at the time I took the photos, I couldn't find my R30 and may have to repurchase it!).The concealer is very liquidy so be careful when squeezing the tube as you may receive more product than you really need. The formula itself, according to Make Up For Ever, "reflects light to erase shadows and fills & smooths fine lines, and Hyaluronic Spheres help hydrate skin". I can definitely agree that it does reflect light and hydrates the skin. I have minor fine lines and some dark circles and I did notice the fine lines were considerably less noticeable after application.I found the coverage to be more of a medium coverage and I used my finger to lightly dab a pea sized amount under the eyes. As per usual, I set this concealer with the Laura Mercier translucent powder.

My final thoughts on the MUFE Ultra HD Concealer is that his conceler is going to be in my makeup routine for a very long time! I've been using itfor 2 weeks straight and noticed my under eye area always felt hydrated and looked exceptionally bright! I didn't find my skin to feel cakey after setting with translucent powder. My eye area felt very smooth and hydrated all day. This concealer did not set into my fine lines, even after 6 hours of wear! I would recommend you use a small brush or your fingers to blend the product and not to use a sponge( i.e beauty blender). I found the sponge absorbed a lot of the product quickly. This could be because the formula is liquidy. I also don't like how the concealer extracts from the tube.I find it a bit messy and at times too much product comes out. It's a bit of a waste as you only need a pea sized amount to achieve great coverage. Overall, this is a great  product that delivers on it's promise to give the consumer a well formulated , easy to use product that delivers exceptional coverage and hydration to the under eye area. If you decide to try out the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD concealer, leave a comment below to tell me how you like it :)

First Impressions: L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion

I first heard about the True Match Lumi Cushion from my favourite youtube guru, Jaclyn Hill. I don't usually watch Youtube videos as I don't have the time , however, on my downtime I enjoy watching her spunky videos. She talked about how much she loved the Lumi Cushion and how it's actually replaced one of her high end foundations. Of course, I had to try it out for myself!

                                                             L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion

The Lumi Cushion packaging is rose gold and super glamorous. You know how I love me some good packaging! I have it displayed on my glass vanity and it adds that pop of glam!

For a drugstore foundation I found the $20 price tag a bit steep for the .51 oz product, but I bought it anyway.Lumi Cushion comes in 8 shades. I had a hard time finding the perfect match for my skin tone. I ended up buying Perfect Beige which wasn't my exact colour but was the closest to my skin tone.
The foundation comes with it's own "puff" for easy application. I wasn't too crazy about it at first sight but it's probably the only tool that will work with this foundation. I tried to use my beauty blender but I felt it absorbed too much of the product. I used my real technique stippling brush but the application looked patchy. I reverted back to the "puff" as it made more sense.I used dabbing motions to apply the foundation. I don't recommend you swipe the foundation onto your skin as you will see the strip of foundation along your face. The foundation is very buildable. I applied one coat of foundation and loved the dewy finish it gave. I could have stopped there but I decided to add another coat of foundation. Two coats of Lumi Cushion foundation and you are a glowing dewy goddess! I love it! I didn't feel it left my skin shiny in a way that looked greasy. It added a nice glow to my skin. At first, I didn't add any setting powder but after a half hour of wear I decided it was best to set the foundation. Even after applying the Laura Mercier setting powder I still noticed my skin had a glow to it. You don't have to use any setting powder, but I decided it was best because I was going out in the freezing cold :)

My final thoughts on the True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation: I still find the $20 price tag a bit high for the .51 oz product. I'm not too thrilled that the best way to apply the foundation is using the "puff" it comes with for sanitary reasons( how do you wash it after a few uses?). The best way to apply the product is by using the "puff" as well as dabbing motions. I hope L'Oreal comes out with more shade ranges. With all that to say, I will be repurchasing the True Match Lumi Cushion foundation as I've been wearing it everyday since purchase and have received so many compliments on how luminous my skin looks. Even in the dead of winter, I was able to achieve a glowy complexion from a foundation! L'Oreal, thank you for such a great product :)

First Impressions : Drugstore Matte Lip Stains

2015 was the year of Matte liquid lip stains! Everyone from Anastasia Of Beverly Hills, Stila, and Kat Von D came out with new formulations and colours of their already cult favourite matte liquid lip stains. The youngest of the Kardashian Klan(lol), Kylie Jenner jumped on the bandwagon and brought along with her a new younger crowd of matte liquid lip stain lovers. In 2016 this trend is still going strong and I couldn't be happier as I'm a huge fan of matte lipsticks/stains. I would change my outfit to match my lipstick colour...no joke...the struggle is real people. Pure Hollywood from Anastasia of Beverly hills was my first matte liquid lip stain purchase. I was so impressed by the long lasting formula. I loved it so much that I used up the .11oz tube very quickly. What does a girl do when she doesn't want to spend another $26 on a .11 oz tube of beautiful smooth, long lasting matte lip stain ? Look for equally impressive drug store options, right! I picked up a few options in the hopes of finding my drugstore holy grail liquid lip stain.

NYX brand is vastly becoming a house hold name, if not so already. I blog about NYX products all the time as I love the higher end quality of their products. I was so eager to try out the Liquid Suede that as soon as I paid for the products,I got in my car and applied liquid suede, Pink Lust right away. The formula is very creamy and feels nice when applied. The applicator is easy to use but doesn't pick up a lot of  product at first so you need to dip back in a few times. The formula doesn't have any scent to it, bonus!. I had to reapply the lip stain a few times through out the day as it transferred onto cups easily.3 hours after my initial application I still didn't feel that it dried into a true matte formula. It applied creamy and settled into more of a silky look. Overall I like this product but I felt it wasn't a true matte finish and not something I would purchase if I was looking for a matte finish.

As of today, Revlon has 8 shades in this line of matte lip colour. I bought HD Temptation. The tube is rounded flat and resembles the hourglass liquid lipstick. The applicator is shorter than the NYX liquid suede so it allows for more control in the application. As soon as I applied the lipstick I was hit with a sweet smell. I don't mind the smell but I know many people prefer to not smell and taste their makeup. It wasn't a showstopper for me, but I could do without it. Once applied the lip stain felt very creamy and I noticed it instantly hydrated my dry lips. As with the NYX liquid suede, I can't say it dried to a true matte stain but it definitely dried to a semi-matte. It still felt great on even after a few hours of wear. I didn't find it transferred colour easily, which is great! I only had to reapply, lightly, once through out the day. This formula is definitely a hybrid of a lip balm/gloss/lipstick because it's moisturising, semi-glossy and long wearing. I would definitely purchase this product again. I think REVLON is re branding themselves with fresh new products and I love the direction they're taking.

Have you ever bought a product and you thought to yourself, what did I use before this ? This is how I feel about the L'oreal Infallible Matte  " Gloss". To be honest, I didn't have high expectants for this gloss because the packaging didnt excite me very much. Yes, I'm one of those people that enjoys good packaging, I'll admit it! I like to display my makeup on my vanity as I find it adds a bit of glamour. Ok, let's get back on track now :) This product comes in 12 shades and I bought Forbidden Kiss. Love the name! I thourghly enjoyed using this product. The applicator itself is short so precise application is made easier. I love that the sponge tip is heart shaped(at least to me that's what it loos like). It actually allows me to lightly line my lips with the tip because of its unique shape. You have to apply this procdut with precision because it dries FAST! You better have a Q-Tip handy to wipe away any mistakes quickly! There was no transfer of product onto my coffee cup at 2pm (applied it at 9:30 am). At 4 pm the colour was still going strong with a bit of bleeding int he middle, but nothing a small touch up can't' fix. L'Oreal markets this product as a matte gloss and they I think it's true matte lipstick. I didn't find it was very hydrating to the lips and it definitely didn't give off any
"gloss" resemblance.  In my opinion this product is the truest matte liquid lip stain that I've tried so far.I've been wearing it almost everyday now and went back to purchase Sunset and Barely Nude. A great drugstore alternative to the brand named liquid stains.

It's no surprise that Maybelline is one of my favourite drugstore brands. I blog about them often and NO, I am not sponsored by them!I just love that they make well formulated products that work for the masses. When I heard they came out with a new lip stain, I ran, no joke, to Shoppers and picked up heir latest product. Vivid Matte liquid comes in 10 high pigmented shades. I picked up Nude Thrill, Rebel Red and Pink Charge. The.26 oz tube is rectangular shaped and there's nothing to exciting about it. The formula itself is very creamy and has a sweet rose smell to it.It's not an overbearing smell but it's noticeable. The formula itself is creamy and long lasting. It doesn't dry to a true matte finish, but borderline semi matte. It definitely will hydrate your lips and there is some colour transfer of the product. I didn't have to reapply the product more than once through out the day. Even though this wasn't a true matte lip stain product, I would repurchase as the colours are very pigmented and hydrated my lips very well.

essence liquid lipstick was the most budget friendly product of the bunch. At $3.99 a tube, it's very affordable. The product comes in 6 shades and I purchased Make a Statement and Colour Party. The shades aren't too pigmented. They come in baby pinks, nudes and plum. The.13oz tube is transparent and short. The applicator is also very short making application, in my opinion, easier. The formula is creamy and not very long lasting. I believe essence should be marketing these products as lipgloss and not lipsticks. I wasn't too excited about this product, even though I do enjoy a lot of other essence products. This one just didn't excite me. I won't be repurchasing this product. Due to the sheer colour of these lipsticks,I ended up giving them to my daughter as they really are more of a gloss based product.

I always want to be transparent with my readers so I will tell you that I have gone back and repurchased Anastasia Beverly Hill, Pure Hollywood and Stila, Stay All Day liquid Lipstick in Caramel. I think these brands make the best higher end liquid lip stains. I thoroughly enjoy these lip stains and will be doing a review on them shortly.

MY GLITTERY OBSESSIONS : BUDGET BEAUTY

Hi there! I'm so excited to be guest posting on Maha's blog this month! Just as a quick intro, I'm Kristy. I live in BC, and over on my blog I post lots of reviews, as well as makeup tutorials, hauls, and random book videos and tags! I'd love if you came and checked out my blog or youtube channel (after you read this post, of course), and you can find me at myglitteryobsessions.blogspot.ca! Anyways, now that you know a tiny bit about me, let me get into today's post! =)

February's theme is Budget Beauty, so I'm going to share with you my Top 5 favourite drugstore makeup products! In many cases, I prefer to pick higher-end makeup products, but I love these drugstore products as much or more than high-end products I have tried, so I think that says something pretty good about them =P

Feel free to disagree if you've tried any of these products, but hopefully this post can give you some ideas for some new, great products to try out!

1. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

stay matte

This is definitely one of my favourite products of all time! I have to have this powder at all times, and I lost count ages ago of how many times i've repurchased this product! If you haven't tried it, I'm sure you've at least heard of it before, as it is pretty widely loved in the beauty comm=unity.

The colour range isn't great, but perhaps the translucent shade would work if your skin is a bit too dark for any of the coloured powders. However, I think everything else about this powder is great. It doesn't have much of a scent, basically just a powder smell, nothing perfume-y. It adds a tiny bit of coverage over foundation and sets foundations down for hours. It doesn't stay perfectly matte all day long in my oiliest areas, but it does last a good long time, and just gets naturally dewy and pretty over the course of the day for me.

2. ELF Acne Fighting Foundation

elf foundation

This is a much more recent favourite of mine, but I still love it. This foundation has quickly jumped to a tie for my top favourite foundation I've ever tried (tied with the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation). This product does have a slight scent because of the acne fighting ingredients such as witch hazel and tea tree, but there is no perfume scent. It's a little medicinal, I suppose, but I really like the scent, personally!

Although I haven't found that this foundation really fights acne, it certainly doesn't break me out. It's also only $6 on the ELF website, so it's probably the best and cheapest foundation I could recommend to anyone! It comes in a good range of shades, I think. I wear the shade Porcelain, which is just pale enough for me, so it might not be good for the palest of pale skin, but it does get pretty fair!

The finish of this foundation is excellent. It has very good medium-full coverage, isn't too matte and drying or dewy and greasy feeling, though I always set it with powder (because I do that with all foundations.)

3. Maybelline Colour Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows

maybelline colour tattoo

Another cult favourite, I'm sure most of you will have tried these but they really are great! There are so many great shades, though I believe most of them ar shimmery or metallic, so if that isn't your thing... sorry!  There are tons of great neutral shades, and colours though, and they're great on their own or as bases for powder shadows! (The two pictured above are Pomegranate Punk and Bad to the Bronze.)

I love to use these as single shadow eye looks, concentraing the pigmentation on the main part of my lid, and then blending it with my finger up above my crease. You can use these with a brush as well, but I do prefer to use fingers. I have never had these crease or smudge on my oily eyelids, which is great, and I totally recommend them if you haven't given them a go yet!

4. Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base

essence

I can't recall seeing anyone online talking about this eyeshadow primer, so I had to include it in this post! I love it so much, it's inexpensive, works great, has a bit of a pigment to it, so it's great at hiding vein-y eyelids, and it lasts all day for me!

There isn't really much else to say about an eyeshadow primer, I guess, but I do want to say that I have tried other, more well-loved on the internet primers, such as the Urban Decay Primer Potion and the ELF Eyeshadow Primers... and this one is just so much better! I find a lot of primers have a weird almost greasy feel to them, and they don't really set, but this one almost acts more like a concealer, and will set down pretty quickly if you leave it alone for a while. I feel like that is why the essence primer clings to shadows and never lets go!

I've even accidentally fallen asleep wearing a bright blue eye shadow over this primer, and woken up the next morning with the shadow still full on my eyes! (Don't try this at home! So bad for your skin! heh...)

5. Maybelline Rocket Volume Express Waterproof Mascara

maybelline rocket

Finally, I have another beloved favourite of mine that I've repurchased again and again! I love Maybelline mascaras in general, they have a lot of great ones, but this one has been a favourite for a while!

This mascara has a fat rubbery brush with separated, stubby, spikey bristles. I didn't think I was going to like the brush originally, but it works really well. It doesn't hurt like hard plastic or rubber bristles sometimes can, and it does a great job at breaking apart any clumps and separating the lashes while also building up good volume.

I'm not sure about the formula of the non-waterproof version, as I'm a huge believer in waterproof mascara. It's all I'll use, because I have oily eyelids, and frequently runny eyes. I can't deal with streaking or smudging, or that horrible tired halo that non-waterproof masxaras give my eyes. Some waterproof mascaras, though, like to get hard and flake off, which is pretty gross too!

In my experience, this mascara doesn't flake or smudge or leave a dark halo on my under eyes. It just sticks, lasts ages, and while it hardens enough to hold a good curl all day, it doesn't stiffen into the rock-hard crust some mascaras do. This mascara is great, and I always have to have on in my collection!

***

So those are my top 5 drugstore makeup favourites! As I mentioned above, feel free to disagree with me in the comments below. Also, please share some of your drugstore favourites; I'd love to try out some more awesome inexpensive products!

Hope you have a great day, and I hope to see you over on my blog soon! Thanks for reading!
