My Top Beauty Travel Essentials + Product Packing Rules

We didn't get to travel a whole lot this Summer but I did manage to squeeze in a weekend trip with my husband to beautiful Montreal sans enfants. ! Packing beauty products for a weekend getaway used to be a daunting task for me. I was that person that packed every single product in her makeup collection for a weekend away! Over the years I've developed a set of rules that I now follow religiously  to help me decide on what to pack!

Rule # 1 Skip Foundation

 Seriously? Yes!

Leave it at home!.  Instead equipe your beauty bag with a great tinted moisturizer or BB cream such as AVON ideal Shade or Smashbox BB cream Not only do these products work (very well) they also fall into my rule #2. As well your skin will benefit from a day off from foundation. ! If you choose a good BB cream or tinted moisturizer with SPF they sometimes will do a better job than a foundation. A bb cream or tinted moisturizer can hydrate your skin , even skin tone as well as conceal any blemishes By leaving the foundation at home, you've also freed up extra space in your makeup bag as you no longer have a need for a foundation brush! #packinglight just got lighter!

Rule # 2 Pack Double Duty Products

Gone are the days when I used to pack a lipstick  and lip balm !! Now I pack a coloured lipblam and add a tiny bit of bb cream to my lips then add the lip balm to give my lips more of a lipstick stain. The best for this hands down is the Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm. They come in a variety of shades and apply easily to give you the right amount of colour. Sometimes if I don't pack my blush I use this chubby stick as a blush as well! To use as a blush , apply it directly to where you usually wear your blush and lightly dab it around with your fingers. It gives the perfect colour. I really love watermelon rose. It adds that bit of flush to your skin that looks good on anyone!

As I wrote earlier in this post, BB cream and tinted moisturizer also contribute to rule #2. A tinted moisturizer with SPF takes the place of a moisturizer, foundation and sunscreen. It can hide blemishes as well as hydrate your skin.

Bonus Tips:

Did you know you can also use conditioner as a shaving gel?

Yep works like a charm and you don't even have to pack it with you as all hotels supply their guests with sample size conditioners+shampoos!

Have you used baby wipes as makeup remover?

These babies are not just to be used for wiping baby bottoms anymore. Exhausted after a full day of sightseeing or shopping ? Grab a wipe to take your makeup off and hit the sheets! Don't have time to "freshen up"? Grab a wipe and give yourself a quick pat down ! Convenient when you need to wipe germs off your hands but no washroom in sight! Baby wipes are cheaper than makeup remover wipes and typically have less perfume. A multitasking small and compact product that is a must in any weekender beauty bag!

Rule #3 Do not wash your hair

Sounds gross but unless you jumped into a chlorine filled pool or had a bird lay claim on your mane then there really is no need to wash your hair on a weekend getaway! Wether you have oily unruly  hair, or you just want to clean your scalp to extend the life of your blow out then you need to invest in Dry Shampoo. I prefer to use Batiste Dry Shampoo. I have used other Dry shampoo brands in the past but they were either way overpriced or they didn't work as promised. Batiste dry shampoo easily brings my hair back to  life. I depend on it when I wear my hair curly hair and straight. It always cleans my scalp and takes away any oil buildup.  This product comes in several fragrances and colours suited for your hair type. As well Batiste dry shampoo is another product that can fall into rule #2. It doubles as a thickening and volumizing spray for thin hair . A few sprays will give you volume and the appearance of thicker hair.

Rule # 4 Pack a shadow stick (or two or three)

What's a shadow stick?  It's eyeshadow in stick form!

So why pack it? It's more convenient to pack than an eyeshadow palette as it takes up way less room in your makeup bag and you're not stressing about your expensive eyeshadow smashing. I have been known to forget an eyeshadow palette ... or two at the hotel once or twice before. I prefer budget friendly eyeshadow sticks like Rimmer London ScandalEyes Sticks to take away with me on weekend trips. If you are low key makeup on your weekend away then this shadow stick in a neutral colour will come in handy, but if you're planning on having a romantic dinner  by candlelight ( You go girl!) and you want a sultry look than 2 or 3 shadow sticks is all you need to pack. I've travelled across the ocean with these sticks and they never let me down. It's very easy to add an extra punch to to your eyeshadow while using these sticks. First  apply the eyeshadow stick to your lid, then dab or pat a bit of vaseline on top of the shadow to give you that famous Kim K. "wet" look that she wore at the VMA's.  These eyeshadow sticks are extremely affordable, portable and versatile. Since you get a lot of pigmentation with only one swipe you won't be disappointed that you didn't pack your much loved  UD  palette!

I also love the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick. They are not budget friendly,  however the formula and easy application make up for the price tag ( kinda ...it really is a splurge product!) They also come in loads of different shades.

Rule #5 Never Travel without mascara

You all know my obsession with Maybelline Pumped Up Mascara. It's for a good reason I tell you ! Mascara alone can transform your eye shape and sometimes,if it's tinted mascara, your eye colour. If I decide to forgo the eyeliner, I just double up on the coat of mascara and my eyes look bigger , more awake and I instantly have fuller lashes. Mascara is a simple way of adding  a bit of glam or sophistication to any look, even if you're only wearing tinted moisturizer and lip balm :)

Rule # 6 Don't forget to pack essential toiletries!

What are essential toiletries you ask? Well I would say toothbrush , toothpaste and deodorant. You don't need to pack full size products of these essentials, you can get away with economy size for a weekend getaway.

These are my essential toiletries :

//I do not use antiperspirant//

//Only toothpaste I use now since I was introduced to it. This toothpaste is specially formulated to get your teeth whiter in 5 days. I love the taste and smell of mint so this toothpaste has become my go to!//

//When I travel I only bring disposable toothbrushes so I can toss them after my trip. I am a bit type "A" with my dental hygiene! //

What do you bring along with you on a weekend getaway?

KOREAN SHEET MASKS - MY SKIN CARE GAME CHANGER!

Korean sheet masks are all the rage now!

Well it's been all the rage for the past year, I just happened to hop on this beauty "trend" a tad late...it's still hot though!

I bought a few sheet masks from THE FACE SHOP a month ago and I posted this picture on my instagram  and it got some love:

It turns out  many of you are just as curious about the Korean sheet masks as I am. Well here's what I researched about them. The sheet mask beauty regime originated from Korea ( duh!) and is used by almost everyone from women, men, celebrities, to teenagers so basically everyone around the globe.!  Sheet masks are individually wrapped and target different skin concerns such as dullness, firmness,acne, hydration and wrinkles.

The individually wrapped sheets are super convenient , affordable ( $5 - $8) and in a 15-40 minute period can give you glowing healthy looking skin. This is because the sheets are dripping with serums/gels that are loaded with antioxidants and natural ingredients to address your skin woes.
Some sheets are single sheets and others come in 2 parts, 1 for the upper face ( eyes) and another for the lower face ( nose , jaw,cheeks).  Some sheets are single use ( meaning you use it once and toss it ) and others you can use again ( 2 times max). The sheets adhere to your face and stay put for the duration required.

Warning: The images you are about to see are frightening! Approach with caution!

//24K GOLD SHEET MASK//
//SEE WHAT I DO FOR MY READERS!//

I tried my first Korean mask last night. It was the Myeonghan Miindo Heaven Grade Ginseng Mask Sheet ( reusable) that I purchased from THE FACE SHOP for $5. It contains Ginseng and 24K gold hydro gel to help fight wrinkles, hydrate and brighten skin tone. Yes, I look hideous! I know!

It was a 2 part sheet mask ( 1 upper and 1 lower). As this was my first sheet mask experience I didn't properly adhere the mask to my face as you can tell. 4 minutes in to the treatment I read the back of the packaging  and I was supposed to pat the sheet lightly for full absorption to the face.

The mask felt very soothing and gooey on my face at first. There was no tingling sensation just a soothing one. After 40 minutes, as per the recommended usage, I peeled the sheet off and gently put it back into the packaging as I can reuse the other side of the mask the next day.

//NO FILTER//
//NO MAKEUP//
//NO MOISTURISER//

This is my skin after removing the sheet mask. I did instantly notice the dry patch on the sides of my nose and my jawline was gone, that surprised me! I loved how smooth my skin felt and YES my skin was illuminating!

I have other sheet masks also purchased from THE FACE SHOP such as Honey and Peony to try next week. I'm impressed with how easy it is to use these masks and I'm loving the instant results. This definitely is a game changer for me as I've seen amazing results on my friends from daily use (even twice a week is beneficial) and I'm excited to achieve the same results.

The Korean sheet mask  "trend" isn't going anywhere any time soon. There is a whole industry built around these convenient packages and I definitely see why. They are budget friendly and offer a variety of ingredients to target your specific skin concerns. As for me, this will change my skin care game! I'm experiencing a lot of issues with the skin dryness lately and I was on the hunt for a budget friendly alternative and I hope I found it!

I will be doing another review on the masks once I've used them for another few weeks :)

Have you tried these masks? If so , comment below. I'ld love to hear from you!

Disclaimer: I purchased the products with my own money. I was not gifted the sheet masks and I was not compensated for the post. The opinions expressed are my own. I am not affiliated with THE FACE SHOP.

WORTH THE HYPE? : ANASTASIA MODERN RENAISSANCE PALETTE

I finally had to chance to grab the highly hyped up Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance eyeshadow palette. This palette is comprised of 14 shadows with mostly matte and a few metallic shades in neutral and berry tones. You have a mix of vibrant red, pinks,oranges and browns. The variety is just fabulous!

The palette itself is vanity display worthy!. It's a pink/lilac velvet compact that looks very regal and has the Anastasia Beverley Hills logo in the middle. The shadows are .02 oz each and were produced in a cruelty free environment. The palette also comes with a well constructed dual ended brush. Bonus!

Shades

top row:

Tempera (matte), Golden Ochre(matte), Vermeer(metallic), Buon Fresco (matte), Antique Bronze(metallic), Love Letter(matte), Cyprus Umber(matte)

bottom row:

Raw Sienna(matte), Burnt Orange(matte), Primavera (metallic), Red Ochre (matte), Venetian Red(matte), Warm Taupe(matte) , Realgar(matte)

I 've ben wearing this palette now for over 2 weeks straight and my favourite combo at the moment is Antique Bronze + Love Letter + Venetian Red + Warm Taupe. I didn't think I would be a fan of the berry tones but I've been converted! How great is it to have neutral matte shades( taupes and browns) in the same palette as matte oranges and reds! This palette is feminine and romantic but most importantly wearable! Because they're matte shades you can layer them on until you find the intensity and combo of colours you're comfortable wearing.You can apply these shadows with a light hand for day /work wear or heavy handed for a night out.

The shadows themselves applied very well with little to no fall out.  They went on smoothly and layered well. Out of the 14 shades my absolute favourite is Red Ochre! I love applying it on the outer crease to add a bit of drama to my daytime look! Gives me just enough "pop" for day wear!

Tip: You can spray MAC Fix + on your brush and dip into any shade to make it more vibrant if you wish.

Overall I'm really impressed with this palette. I was hesitant at first because I wasn't in love with my very first Anastasia palette that I purchased awhile back. I felt it had crazy fallout and poor pigmentation of the shadows, however, I feel this brand has come a long way with their eyeshadows since my last ABH shadow purchase and they are becoming a force to be reckoned with if they continue to be innovative with colours and combos in their palettes. Amazing palette ABH!

Worth the Hype? Yes it is beauty lovers!
If you're shopping around for a palette with a variety of warm bold and neutral shades, go ahead and give this one a try.

DISCLAMIER: I was not compensated for this post. I bought the palette with my own money.The opinions expressed are my own.

EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEAK : CF Rideau Centre " THE REVEAL"

If you live in Ottawa, you've either seen or heard that the Rideau Centre has been transformed into a fashion and art hub! Actually it's considered more of a concept change with it's first introduction of Nordstrom, Tiffanys,Ted Baker,and of course the well-to-do food court. The architectural change is the brain child of B+H Architects. From it's surrounding areas to the indoor architectural design, CF Rideau Centre is a glorious site. I was lucky enough to be invited to an exclusive evening event celebrating the CF Rideau Centre continous expansion before the grand opening TODAY! I had exclusive access to over 230,000 square feet of shopping heaven and first hand viewing of the new boutiques including Maison Simons, H&M, NYX, Massimo Dutti, VANS,SKECHERS, DISNEY, Frank& Oak,and Anthropologie, just to name a few. Oh yeah, I also got to mingle with some of the CF executives. Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday night!

I was most excited to see what new fashion trends the new retailers would bring to the Capital and I was thoroughly impressed. What an exciting time to live in Ottawa!  Here is your exclusive look at what you can expect on opening day August 11 2016!

ENJOY!
